Abstract

V današnjem času imamo internet na dosegu roke v vsakem trenutku življenja, saj so naši pametni telefoni ves čas prisotni v naših žepih.

Secondary abstract: Nowadays, we have the internet at our fingertips at all times, as our smartphones are always present in our pockets. With the significant advancement of technology, the use of social networks has also increased. They have many positive attributes, such as fast communication that can travel from one part of the world to another in seconds, staying in touch with people who are far away, sending photos, sending voice recordings, video calls, and more. However, we must not forget the negative things that social networks can bring, such as the spread of false rumours, blackmail, threats, harassment, and others. This is known as cyberbullying, which is a significant problem today as it puts people in situations that can lead to depression, embarrassment, feelings of worthlessness, and a sense of powerlessness. Violence on social networks is a major problem due to its prevalence, user anonymity, and difficulties in monitoring content. Violent content that is published spreads quickly and is difficult to remove, prolonging the suffering of victims and causing serious psychological consequences. The lack of effective regulation and slow responses to reports further complicate addressing this issue. We conducted a survey to understand people's opinions on violence on social networks. We found that people rarely encounter violent content on social networks and that they themselves mostly do not post violent content, but they observe that violence on social networks is sharply increasing. Solving this problem requires cooperation between social network platforms, legislators, educators, and users themselves. Education on safe and responsible internet use, stricter laws and regulations, and more effective systems for reporting and addressing violent acts online are necessary. We propose that perpetrators of cyberbullying should be penalised, as this would be the quickest way to stop such violence and make users of social platforms feel safer.
