Abstract

V magistrski nalogi smo obravnavali športni turizem v Velenju, natančneje izzive in možnosti za njegov nadaljnji razvoj, pri čemer smo upoštevali družbene, ekonomske in okoljske vplive, ki jih združujemo pod pojem trajnostni turizem. Velenje se nahaja v obdobju prestrukturiranja, saj se pripravlja na zaprtje premogovnika, ki je spodbudil razvoj mesta v petdesetih let prejšnjega stoletja. Mesto prehaja iz tipično industrijske v zeleno regijo, kar je zapisano v Trajnostni urbani strategiji mesta Velenje 2030. V njej (športni) turizem sicer ni prepoznan kot bodoča glavna gospodarska panoga, vendar se zavedajo, da je to rastoča gospodarska panoga v svetu in tudi v Sloveniji. V uvodnem delu smo opredelili ključne pojme: turizem, šport in športni turizem kot povezavo med obema ter proučili Velenje z zgodovinskega, družbenega in geografskega vidika. Empirični del temelji na kvalitativni raziskavi, pri kateri smo s pomočjo intervjujev na terenu pridobili podatke o zastavljeni temi in jih analizirali. Ugotovili smo, da ima Velenje velik potencial za razvoj športnega turizma, ki pa trenutno ni dovolj izkoriščen. Mesto ima dobro razvito športno infrastrukturo za številne športe, ki je bila prvotno zasnovana za šport in rekreacijo občanov, vendar je primerna tudi za športne turiste. Pohvalijo se lahko tudi z dobro urejenimi kolesarskimi potmi po mestu in okolici, ki so povezane z drugimi kolesarskimi mrežami. Veliko možnosti je tudi za pohodništvo. Velik potencial predstavlja Velenjsko jezero, ki je ključna atrakcija in privablja številne obiskovalce v toplejših mesecih, cilj pa je podaljšati sezono skozi vse leto. Usmerjeni so v trajnostni razvoj. Zasnovani so številni športno turistični produkti, ki pa so slabo promovirani. Za nadaljnji razmah športnega turizma bo potrebno izboljšati sodelovanje med ključnimi deležniki in zgraditi več namestitvenih kapacitet.

Secondary abstract: In this Master's thesis, we have discussed sports tourism in Velenje, specifically the challenges and opportunities for its further development, taking into account social, economic, and environmental impacts, which are grouped under the concept of sustainable tourism. Velenje is currently undergoing a period of restructuring as it prepares for the closure of the coal mine that stimulated the city’s development in the 1950s. The city is transitioning from an industrial-oriented region to a green region, as outlined in the Sustainable Urban Strategy of Velenje 2030. Although the strategy does not identify (sports) tourism as a future major economic sector, it recognizes that it is a growing economic sector globally and also in Slovenia. In the introductory part, we defined key concepts: tourism, sport, and sports tourism as a link between the two, and examined Velenje from a historical, social, and geographical perspective. The empirical part is based on qualitative research, in which data on the topic was collected and analyzed through field interviews. We found that Velenje has great potential for the development of sports tourism, which is currently not sufficiently utilized. The city has a well-developed sports infrastructure for many sports, which was originally designed for the sport and recreation of citizens but is also suitable for sports tourists. The city also boasts well-maintained cycling routes throughout the town and surrounding areas, which are connected with other cycling paths in the region. There are also plenty of hiking opportunities. Lake Velenje, a key attraction and a major visitor draw in the warmer months, has great potential, and the aim is to extend the season throughout the year. The focus is on sustainable development, with a number of sports tourism products, which are currently poorly promoted. For further expansion of sports tourism, it will be necessary to improve cooperation between key stakeholders and build more accommodation facilities.
