diplomsko delo
Abstract

Judo is a Japanese martial art founded in 1882 by Jigoro Kano. His great desire and lifelong effort were to make judo an Olympic sport. Although he succeeded, he unfortunately did not live to see that moment, as he passed away before that. Judo became part of the Olympic program in 1964, when the Olympic Games were held in Tokyo, and it has been an integral part of the Olympics ever since. Over the past decades, judo has experienced remarkable development in technical, physical, and especially competitive aspects. The most important indicator of its progress is its spread across nearly all countries of the world. This is evidenced by the fact that athletes from approximately 150 countries participate in the World Judo Championships, and according to some estimates, around 25 million people practice judo worldwide. I chose this topic for my thesis because I wanted to collect all medal winners from the World Championships and Olympic Games and present their results in one place. This data provides an overview of the development of competitive judo throughout history and shows how medals have been distributed among individual countries. Special emphasis is placed on whether certain countries or continents have been consistently successful in winning medals throughout the history of competitive judo. I also focus on Slovenian judokas who, despite the small size of their country, have achieved remarkable results. In terms of the number of medals won at World Championships and Olympic Games, Slovenia ranks among the top nations in the world of judo. |
