Abstract

Podatki vsakega udeleženca so bili tekom raziskovanja vpisani v liste prisotnosti.

Secondary abstract: The research in this Master's thesis studies The link between playing a musical instrument and fine motor skill development in children during the first three years of primary school. In the theoretical part, we introduce the meaning of the motor skill development, especially fine motor skills, and the role of music and playing a musical instrument for a child's full development. The empirical part is based on a quantitative study (causal and non-experimental research) with 60 pupils, aged 6 to 9 years (N = 60; age 6–9 years); 30 participants attending Primary School Kozje did not play a musical instrument, the other 30 attending Music School Krško. We compared the pupils’ speed and accuracy of completing five tasks: cutting with scissors along a curved line, threading yarn through a needle, folding paper, filling in a dashed line drawing and buttoning and unbuttoning a shirt, based on whether or not they play a musical instrument and their gender. The data of each participant was filled in the checklists. The results showed the positive influence of playing a musical instrument on the fine motor skill development. The findings stress the importance of including musical activities, especially regular playing of a musical instrument, into everyday educational practice. Girls, compared to boys, performed better at all tasks. In the future, more accurate data could be acquired, using a bigger test group and with the participation of more students from the music school, who play a musical instrument longer than a year.
