Abstract

Secondary title: Measuring rhythmic abilities of preschool children using digital technology
Secondary abstract: This thesis investigates the performance of preschool children in recognizing rhythmic patterns with the help of digital technology and analyses the factors that influence their performance. The empirical part presents a digitally designed test in which children recognize rhythmic patterns in four-quarter time, four beats long. The test is conducted on a tablet computer that automatically records the results. The findings show that children's performance on the task varies, with those who regularly participate in musical activities such as folklore, choir, or dance performing better. The results emphasize that rhythmic abilities in the preschool period are still maturing intensively and that their development varies among individuals. The key finding of the thesis is that early involvement of children in structured musical activities and a stimulating musical environment contribute significantly to the development of rhythmic abilities. Digital technology has proven to be an effective tool for testing rhythmic abilities, as it increased children's motivation, improved their concentration, and enabled standardized test administration.
