diplomsko delo
Tamara Kerman (Author), Mihaela Brumen (Mentor)

Abstract

V diplomskem delu so predstavljeni psihološko-pedagoški in jezikoslovni vidiki učenja in poučevanja drugega oz. tujega jezika v osnovni šoli.

Secondary title: FOREIGN LANGUAGE PRECEPTION IN A MONOLINGUAL AND BILINGUAL PRIMARY SCHOOL
Secondary abstract: This graduation thesis represents psychological, educational and linguistic aspects of learning and teaching second/foreign languages in the elementary school. In the theoretical part we present some general findings about bilingualism as well as the parent's role in the child's process of learning foreign language. We also introduce some effects of motivation on learning a second or foreign language as well as the education in nationally mixed regions in Slovenia, more precisely in Prekmurje. In the empirical part of the graduation thesis we verified the family's role and the school's environment in learning a second or foreign language, the pupil's motivation for studying a second or foreign language, the pupil's opinion on bilingual learning environment and prior contacts the pupil have had with a second or foreign languages. 58 pupils participated in the research. The questionnaire is based on the descriptive and causal non-experimental method of empirical educational research. The results of the survey showed that the majority of pupils established contacts with a second or foreign language by watching cartoons on TV. Learners broadened their vocabulary by using the computer. The pupils received help in doing their homework mostly from their parents or class mates; one quarter of pupils did their homework by themselves. The teacher presents the new material both in a second, foreign or native language (Slovenian and Hungarian) and uses homework as a tool to stimulate pupils to study the foreign language.
