Secondary title: Parent´s role in the child´s school work
Secondary abstract: Parents’ role is of high importance for child’s teaching performance in 21st century. The psychological insights and various case studies had already denoted the family as important contributor to child’s development in the second half of previous century. On the basis of modern researches the professional knowledge about the importance of the family in human’s development is deepening and expending, and is connected to various areas of human engagement. The main purpose of this diploma thesis was to ascertain which methods are used by parents to accompany and encourage their child for school work, in which forms of cooperation with school are parents included, what are parents’ expectations regarding their child’s education, and in what extend does the level of parents’ education influences/conditions child’s teaching performance. We have executed an empirical research, which included 89 parents of children that visit 4th, 5 th or 6th grade of primary school. Results showed that parents accompany their child’s school work by examining the knowledge that the child’s acquired during the day, and by helping them with home work. Furthermore, parents most often encourage the child to learn in home environment, and they help with home work/learning. In addition, they attend office hours or PTA meetings, and courses or workshops which school organises for the parents. Parents, who are more involved in cooperation with school, tend to seek more information about their child in school. The information that parents gather in such a way is later on likely to be included in child’s school work. Parents with greater interests in appropriate educational methods and manners of encouragement are more likely to be satisfied with their child’s teaching performance, and have higher expectations regarding their child’s further education. The important factor of parents’ involvement is their level of education: parents with higher education show greater interest for their child’s education. Their interest is shown in overall cooperation with school and child's school work (parents’ inclusion in school environment), various methods of encouragement for school work, and by leisure activities (parents’ inclusion in home environment).
