Secondary title: Implementation of the project Education for Democratic Citizenship in primary schools and the possibility of implementation in primary schools with lower educational standards
Secondary abstract: This Master's thesis looks at the concept of Education for Democratic Citizenship, (IDD) which was adopted by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg in 1997. It considers the implementation of the concept within the Slovene primary school system (OŠ) and possibilities for its realisation for children with mild mental disabilities (OLMDR) in primary schools with lower educational standards (OŠ z NIS). The IDD concept can only be effective when it includes the vast majority of the population is – that is to say, when stakeholders of all possible profiles, ages and skills are involved. The concept defines new learning and teaching methods and broadens the sphere of learning. The IDD concept cannot be fully realized if it is not integrated within all subjects and if it is not embedded within the overall school environment. Guidelines for widening the concept and ensuring its integrity have been developed based on the research results and are presented in the conclusion.
