Secondary title: Health status of teachers who teach physical education
Secondary abstract: The theoretical part of this thesis describes the most common health problems, defects, and injuries faced by physical education teachers in elementary schools and those who are involved in the sports education process. Presented are occupational diseases and injuries occurring among employees in the education profession. In the second, empirical part, I explored the health problems and disabilities that teachers most often face and whether these types of problems are related to the teaching profession. A total of 271 subjects (239 classroom teachers and 32 physical educators who work in the classroom, gym, or in an extended stay school) were included in the study in order to determine the health status of teachers employed in elementary schools across Slovenia. Data were collected using an anonymous questionnaire. I was interested in the amount of time dedicated to sports activities by class teachers and physical education teachers in their spare time. I investigated how often, when, why and what kind of doctors they usually visit. Additionally, their attitude towards their body weight, the most common illnesses/conditions they encounter, the satisfaction with their working environment, and finally how they perceive teaching of physical education were explored. The survey indicated that teachers are seeing a physician at least once a year, usually during the winter or spring, and when the seriousness of their condition requires professional help. On average, they are absent from work less than 5 days per year due to illness or injury, mostly in the winter and spring time. Most teachers assess their health status positively as well as taking good care of their health. Teachers experience tension, stress, and high pressure occasionally, however, with a bit of effort they cope with these factors successfully. Very few teachers smoke and most are satisfied with their weight. The majority of the teachers have not experienced any injury over the past 12 months. They have a positive approach towards physical education and they do not feel that teaching the course requires too much strain on their behalf. The survey results also showed that teachers are moderately satisfied with their working environment.

Abstract (ePrints): V teoretičnem delu diplomskega dela so opisane najpogostejše zdravstvene težave, okvare in poškodbe, s katerimi se srečujejo učitelji razrednega pouka, ki izvajajo športno-vzgojni proces in športni pedagogi.
