Secondary title: Validation of spectrophotometric method for the determination of manganese in steel
Secondary abstract: The main issue of my thesis is the element manganese, which I have determined in the steel by an analytical method called spectrophotometry. I verified the appropriate validation parameters of the spectrophotometry method by setting wavelength measurement recorded absorption validation parameters and compared them with the absorption spectra of the samples. The results are shown plotted with the calibration curves, indicating the dependence of absorbance on the manganese concentration. I determined the proportion of manganese in steel from the calibration curves. With the help of analytical grade standard MnCl2 × 4H2O with potassium iodate(VII) I examined the stoichiometry oxidation of manganese to manganate. Several analytical methods, such as: gravimetric, atomic absorption spectrometry and complex titration were used to verify the purity of Standard MnCl2 × 4H2O and then determine manganese. The water content in salt crystalohydrate MnCl2 × 4H2O was determined by titration, according to Karl – Fischer. For the methodological part of the thesis I prepared a two-day workshop, which takes place during the project week at school. Through this workshop pupils become familiar with the basics of spectrophotometry and experimental work. It is intended for 7 th- graders of the Primary school at the subject of Natural Science.

Abstract (ePrints): Ključni problem mojega diplomskega dela je element mangan, ki sem ga z izbrano analizno metodo - spektrofotometrijo določala v jeklu. Da ima spektrofortometrična metoda ustrezne validacijske parametre, sem preverila tako, da sem določila valovne dolžine merjenja s posnetimi absorpcijskimi spektri standardnih raztopin in jih primerjala z absorpcijskimi spektri vzorcev. Rezultati so podani z narisanimi umeritvenimi krivuljami, ki podajajo odvisnost absorbance od koncentracije mangana. Iz umeritvenih krivulj pa sem določila delež mangana v jeklu. Stehiometrijo oksidacije mangana do manganata sem preverila s pomočjo analitsko čistega standarda MnCl2 × 4H2O s kalijevim jodatom(VII). Za to, da sem preverila čistost standarda MnCl2 × 4H2O in v njem določila vsebnost mangana, sem uporabila več analiznih metod. Te so bile, gravimetrija, atomska absorpcijska spektrometrija, kompleksometrična titracija. S titracijo po Karl – Fischerju, pa sem določila še vsebnost vode v soli kristalohidrata MnCl2 × 4H2O . V okviru metodološkega dela sem pripravila dvodnevno delavnico, ki se dogaja v projektnem tednu na šoli. Tu se učenci seznanijo z osnovami spektrofotometrije in eksperimentalnim delom. Dvodnevna delavnica je namenjena učencem v 7. Razredu osnovne šole pri predmetu Naravoslovje.
