Secondary abstract: The level of functional literacy is important for a successful and functional life of an individual. It depends on the level of functional literacy how a person can cope with different situations which require the proper use of a written text. Some people find it very difficult to understand certain written texts; the others have troubles with arithmetic operations or filling in the forms and charts. Therefore it is necessary to be aware of one’s deficiency and if you are willing to take remedial action you are halfway towards success. The research has proved that most of the interviewees are not aware of literacy deficiency and they have no need to do something about it or just improve their knowledge.

Abstract (ePrints): Stopnja funkcionalne pismenosti je pomembna za posameznikovo uspešno življenje in delovanje. Od stopnje funkcionalne pismenosti je odvisno, kako se bomo znašli v različnih situacijah, ki od nas zahtevajo uporabo napisanega besedila. Nekaterim ljudem največjo težavo predstavlja razumevanje napisanega besedila, drugim računanje, tretjim obrazci ali preglednice … Če se svoje pomanjkljivosti zavedamo, smo na dobri poti. Če imamo voljo, da to pomanjkljivost odpravimo, pa smo že skoraj na pol poti. Raziskava, ki sem jo opravila v okviru te diplomske naloge, je pokazala, da se večina anketiranih sploh ne zaveda primanjkljaja na področju pismenosti. Iz tega seveda sledi, da ne čutijo potrebe, da bi ta primanjkljaj odpravili oz. se dodatno izobraževali.
