Secondary title: Evaluation of seismic resistance of a residential house in Ljubljana
Secondary abstract: The subject of the Thesis is seismic performance assessment of a residential masonry building located in Ljubljana. Firstly, different failure mechanisms of masonry walls, i.e. flexural mechanism, the sliding shear mechanism and shear mechanism characterized by formation of diagonal cracks, are presented and discussed. In the second part, the individual residential house is considered as a case study. Seismic forces were determined by the lateral force method of analysis, as it is defined in SIST EN 1998-1:2005. A model of each storey was developed in program SAP 2000 in order to assess internal forces in structural walls. Since in-situ tests of material characteristics were not available, which is quite common in practice, we assumed them from the literature. However, such approach yield results which are slightly more uncertain, since it is well known that the material strength of the masonry wall significantly affects the earthquake-resistance and even the collapse mechanism of the masonry wall and the entire structure. Finally, resistance of all individual elements and that of the building was checked. The results show that the building is not able to withstand design seismic actions, therefore strengthening measures are proposed and discussed.

Abstract (ePrints): V diplomski nalogi je narejena ocena potresne odpornosti zidane konstrukcije.
