Secondary title: Influence of the environment on the state of the cultural heritage in Upper Carniola, Slovenia
Secondary abstract: This graduation thesis discusses the question of three sacral buildings in the region of Upper Carniola in Slovenia. They are all located in different climate conditions and protected as cultural heritage. In Šenčur municipality we analysed the church of St. Radegunda in Srednja vas and a chapel in Visoko pri Kranju; in Radovljica municipality we analysed the church of St. Peter na Gori nad Begunjami. On all the buildings we performed visual analysis and documented as well as listed any present damage. We tried to determine the cause of the damage using theoretical background only; no further analysis was made in laboratories. We used 3D microscopy on eight spots, on the church of St. Radegunda and the chapel (four spots on each), in order to obtain more detailed information about the damage on the buildings. The results are listed below and suggest the depth of cracks and the level of consolidated salt. The conclusion consists of a synthesis comparing the incidence of damage and its extent on the three buildings. It has been established that despite wide legal background, the care for cultural heritage is insufficient. Before starting any repair work, it would be necessary to perform more research concerning the construction itself as well as the building materials in order to at least to maintain the current state, if not improve it.
