The diploma work covers the history of conceptual origins through Dadaism, the concept of ready-made, groups and movements OHO, to post-conceptual origins and neoconceptual art. I tried to interpret the mentioned conceptual origins through the field of archiving as an artistic painting project, in the center of which is the story of my grandmother. I interpreted her written story through etnological perspectives from the field of intangible cultural heritage, as verbal tradition. I also understood the archiving of the verbal tradition as a source of inspiration, which expands the discourse, through the art contens, to the social relation of younger generations towards the elderly.
The art project summarizes the interview with Vera Jurečič (my grandmother), the paintings, which were made by the story this spring in the watercolour technique; and the material cultural heritage – original artefacts of my grandmother (chosen objects, which symbolically comprise her story) kept in a suitcase as an »archive«. Through this I merge the approaches of neoconceptual art with those of archiving and preservation of the materials of cultural heritage, where the main theme is the intangible cultural heritage as a visual word construction or a text, whoose contents marks the social role of archiving the past and it's unification with the present.
The pedagogical work shows a merge of conceptual origins and the intangible cultural heritage, with a desire to, through examples, discussions and artistic expression with students in the first year of secondary school, encourage reflection on the conceptual and contemporary art as well as on the attitude towards older people. |
