magistrsko delo Organizacija in management kadrovskih in izobraževalnih sistemov
Abstract

WORK EXPERIENCES OF THE FIRST JOB SEEKERS |
Secondary abstract: |
The present Master’s Thesis examines the work experience of those first-time job seekers who have never been employed and have registered with the Employment Service of Slovenia (hereinafter: the ESS) at the Kranj Labour Office in the period between March 2012 and March 2013.
The first section of the Thesis focuses on theory, providing a general description of the ESS’s operations, namely the registration process, labour recruitment, the ESS’s role in preparing the job seeker for the search of employment and independent career management. This is followed by an overview of the first time job seekers’ competences and their manner of looking for employment. The theory section concludes with a presentation of strategies for working with first-time job seekers, which has been developed precisely with the aim of facilitating the earliest possible activation of young people in the labour market.
The empirical part features a study of first-time job seekers’ work experience, where data was gathered using the Employment Plan Formulary. Data was analysed using statistical methods built into SPSS software. Tests of the hypotheses have shown that the higher the level of education, the more work experience the first-time job seeker will possess. Also confirmed have been the hypotheses that the amount of work experience and the age of first-time job seekers are correlated, and that first-time job seekers who failed to complete their studies for the related level of education had more work experience than those who completed the course. Likewise, it has been shown statistically significant that more first-time job seekers have work experience corresponding to their level of education rather than other levels of education, as well as that more first-time job seekers have work experience within their profession than in other fields. The results have also confirmed the hypothesis of the statistical significance of more first-time job seekers looking for employment within their area of professional expertise than outside it. On the other hand, the hypothesis claiming that at least 50% first-time job seekers with uncompleted levels of education have work experience at posts requiring such qualifications, have not been confirmed. Also refuted was the hypothesis according to which the level of education of first-time job seekers looking for employment abroad is statistically significantly different from the level of education of first-time job seekers not searching for work abroad. The final hypothesis examining in correlation between the scope of all work experience and the length of the education period, has been confirmed. Based on information thus obtained, we were able to make suggestions helping first-time job seekers gather work experience and improve their employment opportunities. |
