diplomsko delo
Abstract
Vanjo so vključeni učitelji devetih osnovnih šol celjske regije.

PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS' ATTITUDES TOWARDS |
Secondary abstract: |
Conflicts have always been a part of our society so it is nearly impossible never to experience them either in life or in school. It is important to try to understand them and to resolve them constructively. Schools should not always strive to prevent conflicts (e.g. by video surveillance, school guards), but rather to teach their pupils how to respond to conflicts correctly. Teachers should be role models for pupils. By setting the example, they can transfer the model of constructive conflict resolution on to their pupils. One of such models is peer mediation, which teaches pupils how to resolve conflicts peacefully with the help of a third person. The purpose of this thesis was to research the attitudes of teachers towards conflicts. The research is based on a descriptive and non-experimental causal method of empirical pedagogic research. The research included teachers of nine primary schools of the Celje region. The results of the survey show that teachers view conflicts positively. Their most common reaction to conflicts in life is to reach a compromise with the person in conflict, while in school their most common reaction is to reach a resolution through cooperation. Only occasionally is their reaction to conflicts in life the same as to conflicts in school. They feel that the projects aimed at conflict resolution learning which are organized in schools are successful, especially those focusing on school and peer mediation. The teachers see many more positive sides to conflicts rather than negative. They have pointed out that conflicts in schools cannot be avoided. They feel they are trained enough for constructive conflict resolution among pupils. One of the research topics was also to see whether school mediation influences the teachers' attitudes towards conflicts. The results show some positive trends, which point towards an important role of school mediation in Slovenian schools in the future. |
