Abstract

Rezultate smo ponazorili v obliki tabel in grafov.

Secondary abstract: Background: Automated teller machines (ATMs), nowadays widely accessible, are still subject to different kinds of fraud despite the constantly improving safety features. According to research, ATM fraud is increasing, causing significant losses to users and banks. Objectives: The objective of the diploma work was to ascertain the knowledge of the Slovenian user about ATM fraud and the recommendations for safe use. We also wanted to determine their adherence to the recommendations. Methods: Data collection was performed with the help of an anonymous web-based survey, the link to which was sent to various public e-mail addresses. The results were presented in the form of tables and graphs. Results: 77.65 % of responders know the recommendations for safe ATM use. They graded their knowledge with an average grade of 3.5 (on a scale of 1-5). They mostly adhere to them in a high percentage, but often only sporadically. We assessed the knowledge regarding five types of ATM fraud. The users were well acquainted with skimming and over-the-shoulder look and poorly with the fake ATM. Most were of the belief that ATM fraud is underexposed in the media. Discussion and conclusions: The user awareness regarding ATM fraud is lacking, according to our survey. Users are somewhat better informed about recommendations for safe use, but there remains a subset of users that is ignorant about them and with poor adherence. We presented solutions that would, in our opinion, improve ATM user awareness regarding safe use and thus lessen the possibility of ATM fraud.
