Abstract

Stresen in nezdrav način življenja sodobnega časa prinaša veliko dejavnikov tveganja za nastanek možganske kapi.

Secondary title: Problems of stroke patients
Secondary abstract: Stressful an unhealthy lifestyle of modern times is a cradle of risk factors for stroke. Stroke is very dangerous and urgent situation; the consequences can be severe and permanent and include defects and impairment of speech, movement, sensation... The results of stroke extremely reduce quality of life of the affected individuals and their families. In the first year for many, it can even be fatal. In Slovenia as well as in the rest of the world, mortality due to stroke is at the very top. The success of medical treatment in most cases depends on how much time elapses from symptoms to treatment; the recovery success of a stroke patient on the other hand, is an immediate effect of the quality of rehabilitation. Research methodology: The research was based on the quantitative method, using a structural questionnaire with closed ended questions and with one open ended question. The research sample included 20 randomly chosen patients, members of the Združenje bolnikov s cerebrovaskularno boleznijo Slovenije – Klub Maribor. Results: The results of the research have shown that the respondents' satisfaction in life after stroke slightly declined due to still present particular problems, which cause a certain degree of dependency on others in daily activities. We found that the majority still suffers from speech and vision impairments, more than half of them live with chronic pain, a little less than a half have problems with balance. A third of them need assistance in daily activities. Conclusion: The success of the reintegration of stroke patients in the environment and in the everyday life depends in no small measure on the care and rehabilitation teams who need to work interdisciplinary. In Slovenia, apart from professional teams in the institutional treatment of stroke patients, clubs and patient associations also play a very important role in the rehabilitation of stroke patients. They operate in public interest, especially in the field of health care, providing long-term support to their members, even after concluded basic rehabilitation.
