Abstract

Secondary title: BEHAVIOR AND PARTICIPATION MOTIFS IN SOCIAL NETWORKS SITES
Secondary abstract: The purpose of the thesis was to observe and determine how do young people communicate and behave on Facebook, and what are their motivations in doing so. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with the characteristics of online social networks, especially Facebook- we presented the basics of (web or computer-mediated) communication and (media) socialization. The empirical part consists of two research methods: the observation and the interview. We have been observing five Croatian Facebook users and interviewing another six ones. The basic conclusion of the study is that, according to our research criteria, those users communicate differently in the virtual world than they do in the real world.
