Abstract

Secondary title: Lost in translation
Secondary abstract: The existing study entitled Lost in translation: translators' intervention in translation of the G. Orwell's "Animal Farm" focuses on the unsuitability of the translation and the inconsistency of the translator during the process of translation, points out the differences between the original and target text, explains translators' decisions, gives new, possible translations instead of previous or deleted ones, and describes them. Literary translation is not and cannot be only the linguistic transfer of the original text to another language - it is an attempt to put the translation in different socio-cultural conditions and intertextual environment. Theoretical part is based on Skopos theory, which gives priority to purpose of producing target text instead of an aim and theory of literary translation. Empirical part consists of Kitty van Leuven-Zwart's linguistic model (1989, 1990) which helps to describe and compare translation and original texts. Comparison has shown that different translation shifts or so called mutations occurred during the process of translation. Therefore, the translation has not fulfilled its purpose and the target text readers were not able to recognize the author's style, symbolism, rich vocabulary, and allegories.
