Abstract

Secondary abstract: The master's thesis acquaints the reader with the theoretical framework of the social context of homosexuality, violence and criminological theories about the causes of violence, including violence details in lesbian and gay relationships. The thesis concludes with the perspectives of homosexuality in early criminology and presents a newer idea of the inclusion of homosexuality in criminological study and research. The centre of attention is devoted to violence in same-sex relationships, surrounded by society’s rigid social and sexual schemes, heterosexism, homophobia and other prejudices. The impact of the broader social context of heteronormativity displays the specifics of factors that are present in a violent same-sex relationship that is as often as in heterosexual relationships. The comparison of violence in same-sex and heterosexual relationships can be seen throughout this thesis; in conclusion, this comparison will be presented. The explanation for the causes of partner violence, and thus the proposals for preventive grounds should be treated multidisciplinary and look for in a multifaceted model that connects various risk factors. Furthermore, we dedicate our attention on the placement of homosexuality in criminological theory, and we also show how criminology as a scientific discipline is involving homosexuality in theories that form the basis for new insights and research. The master's thesis presents the conceptual basis for further research and critical examination of specific problem that is, mainly in the Slovenian area, often overlooked.
