Abstract

Diplomsko delo vsebuje razpravo in ugotovitve, s katerimi potrdimo ali ovržemo postavljene hipoteze.

Secondary abstract: Violence surrounds us no matter where we are, if we are at a soccer game between Maribor and Olimpija, at the local bar on Friday night, or at home when our child is being naughty and gets a deserved slap. The problem of this method of (mis)communication lies in the fact that it became acceptable in our society. Consequently there is increasingly more hidden domestic violence, as we make excuses for such violence and try to rationalise it one way or another. We still do not like to talk about violence and prefer to shut our eyes to it. And quite often we assign some portion of the blame to the victim (“she got what she deserved”). Thus the home, where we are supposed to feel safe and happy, becomes a place of physical, psychological, economic and sexual torment. Domestic violence stems primarily from cultural patterns, habits, and customs that further facilitate the social acceptability of violence. We are most worried about the fact, that the level of society’s tolerance of domestic violence is quite high, while the level of violence recognition is quite low. Violence is not a state of illness, it is a learned behaviour. When facing violence we have a choice: will we respond with violence or not (Aničič, Lešnik, Mugnaioni, Plaz, Vanček, Dobnikar, Veselič in Kerin, 2002). It is consequently even more important we appropriately discipline this form of behaviour and try to limit it as much as possible. And on the basis of this realisation, that domestic violence is still a serious issue in our society, victims must receive help from the police, judicial system, social assistance services and other governmental and nongovernmental organisations, and from us as well. In the diploma thesis we study domestic violence in the area of the Police Directorate Ljubljana from 2008 to 2012. The diploma thesis includes a discussion and findings, which we will use to either confirm or reject the stated hypotheses.
