Abstract

Secondary title: VITAMIN C IN NUTRITION OF YOUNG PEOPLE
Secondary abstract: Introduction: In this thesis we presented vitamin C and assessed whether young people are aware of the importance of vitamin C in their diet. We also determined which foods, containing vitamin C, they include in everyday consumption. Methods: In the empirical part, we conducted a study on vitamin C by means of a questionnaire. The survey was completed by 30 young people, aged 18-25 years in the month of August and September 2014. The questionnaire contained 18 questions. Results: We learned that young people are aware of the importance of vitamin C in their diet, and that they are familiar with foods that contain more vitamin C, but they had little public awareness about the vitamin C. They consume vitamin C with fresh fruit and vegetables, particularly to prevent or alleviate the symptoms of colds, to reduce stress and contribute to the better functioning of the immune system. Discussion and conclusions: Due to today's fast pace of life and stress, young people do not pay enough attention what they eat. They are not aware of the consequences they are leaving on the body due to insufficient vitamins and minerals intake. In general, young people still do not eat enough fruit and vegetables and do not intake the recommended daily allowances of vitamins and minerals.
