Abstract

V pregled in analizo sem vključila 235 mandibul 8 različnih vrst (A. agrarius, A. alpicola, A. flavicollis, A. hermonensis, A. microps, A. mystacinus, A. sylvaticus, A. uralensis), od katerih sem vrsto A. flavicollis obravnavala z dveh različnih lokalitet. Analizo modularnosti sem izvedla z metodami geometrijske morfometrije. Zastavljeno hipotezo sem potrdila, pri posameznih vrstah sem ugotovila podobno modularno organizacijo.

Secondary title: Size, shape and modular organization of the mandible in field mice, Apodemus: comparison between species
Secondary abstract: The focus of my graduation thesis was the genus of the Field mice, Apodemus. I have analysed their mandible shape and size variability and I have also verified whether individual species show similar modular organisation of the mandible. I have included 235 mandibles of 8 different species (A. agrarius, A. alpicola, A. flavicollis, A. hermonensis, A. microps, A. mystacinus, A. sylvaticus, A. uralensis) in my examination and analysis, one of those species, A. flavicollis was collected from two separate localities. I have used methods of geometric morphometry that enable separate analyses of size variety and shape of organisms or their structures. I have discovered that the differences in size between species are statistically significant. With the help of Principal component analysis and the discriminant analysis I have checked variability in the mandible shape. It is clear from the results that mandibles of different species also differ in shape. I have conducted visualisation of the shape differences with the point regression. There is an expression of pronounced elongation of the mandible in some species, especially of the alveolar module, which was most explicit in A. alpicola, and shortening of the mandible in other species, which was most obvious in A. mystacinus. I have also incorporated the verification of the preliminary hypothesis that some species of mice exhibit similar modular organisation of the mandible, in relation to the body and the branch of mandible. I have conducted the analysis of the modularity with the geometrical morphometry methods. I have confirmed the aforementioned hypothesis, which means that I have noticed similar modular organisation in some species.
