Abstract

Množične večigralske spletne igre igranja vlog so eden izmed najbolj priljubljenih žanrov iger. V diplomskem delu nas je zanimala semiotika množičnih večigralskih spletnih iger, predvsem pomeni znakov in simbolov v njihovih vse kompleksnejših virtualnih svetovih.

Secondary title: SEMIOTICS IN MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE ROLE - PLAYING GAMES
Secondary abstract: Massively multiplayer online role-playing games are one of the most popular game genres. In this diploma thesis we were interested in the area of massively multiplayer online games and the semiotics that exists in their increasingly complex virtual worlds. In the thesis we examined current literature, analysed games and performed a survey amongst players. Mainly, we were interested in how well do players understand signs, which are a component part of semiotics. We were also interested in double meaning of signs in inside and outside of the game. We established that same signs, can have a different meaning inside and outside of a game and players have found the meaning in terms of gameplay much more important. Despite the double meaning of signs, the players have shown, that they can comprehend them really well. Through that we can conclude, that semiotics in massively multiplayer online role-playing games is not complex.
