magistrsko delo
Abstract

A PEDAGOGICAL EXPERIMENT - PETS IN THE THIRD GRADE OF PRIMARY SCHOOL |
Secondary abstract: |
The master's thesis consists of three parts, i.e. theoretical, empirical and practical, which complement each other and constitute a whole. The theoretical part presents natural sciences (what they are, the methods of natural sciences, early science, natural science procedures, natural science literacy), animals (what they are, what is the connection between people and animals), with special emphasis placed on pets and animals in school (focusing on the relationship between animals and pupils). It also deals with two lesson plans, one for learning about the environment (2011) and another for natural sciences and technology (2011) (a detailed analysis and explanation of the objectives in terms of animals). The empirical part contains an empirical research consisting of a pre- and a post-test. The aim of the pre-test was to ascertain the knowledge of the pupils in both the experimental and the control class about living nature; we discovered that the knowledge of the pupils in both groups was quite similar. The purpose of the post-test was to determine the differences in their knowledge about pets. The results indicated that the pupils belonging to the experimental group had more practical knowledge because they actually got acquainted with live animals. However, the pupils from the control group showed wider cognitive knowledge. The practical part of the master's thesis consists of detailed lesson plans, a description of the work process and an evaluation of two lessons on the environment in two different third grade classes (experimental and control class). It also contains a lesson plan for an optional compulsory activity, which was similar for both groups in terms of content (pets), but differed as to the approaches, methods and accessories used. Our findings suggest that animals in the classroom improve the development and mood of the pupils. They also help foster certain important values. However, having them in the classroom places a greater responsibility on the teacher and requires a more serious commitment. |
