Abstract

Z oblikovnega vidika prevladujejo epitetoneza, glagolska metafora in primera, manj pogosta je samostalniška metafora, še redkejši sta genitivna metafora in identifikacija.

Secondary title: Stylistic elements in Mrzel's collection Luči ob cesti
Secondary abstract: The subject of the graduation thesis is the Luči ob cesti (Lights along the road) collection of short prose by Ludvik Mrzel from 1932. It focuses on metaphor as the prevalent stylistic feature of the collection. The analysis was conducted with the help of the interactional and cognitive theory of metaphor. The metaphors are classified first according to their metaphorical form and then according to source areas. Dominant form-wise are epithets, verb metaphors and similes; noun metaphors are less frequent, while there are even fewer cases of genitive metaphor or of identification. The metaphor sources are from the fields of sensory perception, natural phenomena, objects, human activity and abstract notions. Standing out among the conceptual metaphors is the metaphor of the path, used for the life of a lonely and alienated subject. The metaphors, which are featured strongly above all in passages of lyrical meditation and impressionistic atmospheric inserts, visualise and set down in concrete form man's mental and emotional life, there are instances of anthropomorphisation with respect to the landscape, objects and other concrete phenomena, while there are also cases of synesthetic word combinations and oxymorons. The listed fields of meaning construct an aesthetic and balanced world of metaphor, which is in the service of the lyrical short story model and leads to a transition to prose poem in spots where metaphors are particularly prominent. Although there are some signs at the thematic level of newer currents, Mrzel's lyrical tone, metaphors based on beauty, his confessional style and use of symbols for expressing mental states left the author fully within the framework of the impressionistic and symbolistic short prose characteristic of Cankar.
