Abstract

Secondary title: THE INFLUENCES OF THE TV FOOD ADVERTISEMENT ON THE PRESCHOOL CHIOLD
Secondary abstract: The diploma thesis discusses guidelines for healthy eating; the role of a childcare worker and parents in the development of dietary habits of children; the impact of television on children; the quantity, content and a child's comprehension of advertisements; food in commercials, and legislation in the field of advertising food for children, including the National Food and Nutrition Action Plan. The purpose of the research was to establish the extent of parents' involvement in the children's television viewing, what significance did they contribute to advertising, and if they believed that commercials also affected their choice of food. We focused on commercials, which children can view on television. The empirical section of the thesis includes results of an anonymous survey, which was used for data collection, and included parents whose children attended the kindergarten in Šentjur in school year 2014-2015. We were also interested in the types of food and beverages featured in advertisements. The parents answered questions about the significance and time of, and their involvement in, television viewing. They provided their opinions relating to commercials featuring food and their impact on dietary habits of children. The survey results showed that the parents were aware of the importance of the involvement in their children's television viewing and they also knew what their children were watching on television. Nevertheless, the majority of parents are only occasionally present when their children watch television. The parents notice commercials, but they claim that these do not impact their purchase choices. However, they believe that advertising less healthy food for children impacts children's dietary habits and obesity. The majority of parents is familiar with the guidelines for healthy eating, but observe these only occasionally. It was established that the impact of television advertising on a preschool child depends primarily on the parents.
