Abstract

Magistrsko delo je zasnovano kot praktično delo. Obravnava osebe z Downovim sindromom, njihov razvoj, telesne značilnosti in sposobnosti.

Secondary title: The Beneficial Effects of Music On People with Down Syndrome
Secondary abstract: The master thesis is designed as practical work. It addresses persons with Down's syndrome, their development, physical characteristics and abilities. It includes the inclusion of children with special needs, types of educational programmes and an overview of institutions and centres in Slovenia. It also examines the therapeutic effects of music on a healthy person as well as a person with special needs. The master thesis also presents concrete exercises with music designed for relaxation, lowering stress, easing pain as well as improving attention, concentration, memorizing and social interaction. The second, practical part of the master thesis presents results of the survey performed in the institute CIRIUS in Vipava. It includes five children with Down's syndrome of different ages. The survey analyses how individuals with this disorder experience music and what feelings they experience during the musical activity. When determining the differences, sex and age of individuals were taken into account. This part explores what causes them the most difficulties while listening to music and what their strengths are. It also examines which results can be achieved and in what time in a group of five students of different sex, age and level of disorder who are learning a folk song.
