Secondary title: | DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY OF THE 20th CENTURY AND SEMIOTIC ANALYSIS OF PHOTOGRAPHY |
Secondary abstract: | This thesis analyses documentary photography of the 20th century and semiotic analysis of photography. The documentary photography always tries to leave a message and make an impression. To succeed that, it has to find the right relationship between objective contents and arbitrary subjective creative instinct. A human is a subjective creature that is why the line between objective and subjective can be very thin in the sphere of documentary. The photographer decides about the look of the shot, imposes standards to what is being photographed and that affects the communicativeness and authenticity of the photography. Photography and its meaning are analysed by semiology. |
