(diplomsko delo)
Abstract
Teoretična izhodišča: Duševno zdravje nam omogoča zmožnost percepcije, razumevanja in interpretacije okolja.

PROMOTION OF MENTAL HEALTH OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS, AND SUPPORT FOR THEIR RELATIVES |
Secondary abstract: |
Theoretical background: Mental health allows us the ability of perception, understanding and interpretation of the environment. Promotion of mental health of children and adolescents is implemented on several levels, it appears in kindergarten, in a school environment, health system and in media. A nurse has an important role in promoting mental health of children and adolescents and works in all sectors of healthcare. When an mental illness occures to children and adolescents, relatives are experiencing personal distress or have the feeling of guilt and shame, so they are also in need of professional help. The purpose of the thesis was to present the significance of mental health promotion for children and adolescents and how mental illnesses impacts the relatives.
Research methodology: We used descriptive method, with which we have presented mental health, mental health promotion for children and adolescents, as well as support for their relatives to cope with mental illness. We also used a comparative method, with which we compared the health and mental health in Slovenia and around the world.
Results: By reviewing the literature, we found that nowadays the promotion of children and adolescents mental health, in comparison with a decade ago is much more developt, which is indicated by many preventive and promotion programs which are carried out by Centre for Social Work and non- governmental organizations, but it still isn't good enough catered for an equal opportunity of accessing services and programs, which are intended for the promoting of mental health for children and adolescents. Relatives during the findings that the close one is suffering from mental illness, experience stress, feel guilt and does not know how to live with a person who has a mental illness, and feels that his world has been turned upside down.
Conclusion: Still nowadays there is less talking about mental health in comparison with physical health. We consider that a good promotion of mental health is necessary from the media side, health professionals and the school system. It is also important that the relatives get the help they need to cope with mental illnes at the right time, and that they get relief when they need it and not later, when the negative impact have already occured. |
