Abstract

Teoretična izhodišča: Metodologiji Lean in Six Sigma sta bili prvotno neodvisni ena od druge. Lean je metodologija za izboljšanje in optimizacijo proizvodnih procesov in storitev. Z analizo in študijem strokovne in znanstvene literature smo predstavili uporabo metodologije LSS.

Secondary abstract: Theoretical background: Lean and Six Sigma methodologies were originally independent from one another. Lean is a methodology for improvement and optimization of production processes and services. It focuses on improving quality by reducing errors and waste in processes. Originally developed by the automotive industry (Ford 1913), completed and upgraded by company Toyota. Six Sigma is a methodology, developed by Motorola, for improving processes using data to achieve stable and predictable results by reducing discrepancies and errors in the process. Both methodologies are combined as Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and offer with its tools and modes of interpretation perfect combination of work process improvement. Eventually they started to use it in other areas and organizations such as schools, hospitals, offices, pharmacy and others. The aim of this thesis is to demonstrate the use of Lean Six Sigma methodology in nursing. Research Methodology: The thesis is formed by using descriptive methods. By analysing and studying technical and scientific literature, we present the application of the LSS methodology. We used the bibliographic database COBISS/OPAC and foreign bibliographic database CINAHL, Medline, PubMed, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar. Discussion: Organizations that provide patient health care are dealing with problems and mistakes in the working process. These can reduce effectiveness of the work, threaten patient safety, reduce quality, increase costs, increase waiting times, resulting in patients and staff dissatisfaction. Normally obstacles arise in the optimization of the work process due to lack of time, lack of knowledge, poor information flow, lack of personnel and others. On basis of examples shown in this thesis visible improvements can be seen, that have been achieved through the introduction of LSS methodology in the nursing process. Conclusion: In this thesis we present and describe the most common tools, methods and examples of good practice in the implementation of the methodology in hospitals and medical institutions. It is presented, that already with the basic tools and methods, we can cost efficiently improve work processes.
