Abstract

Spoznavanje in utrjevanje naravoslovnih pojmov se dopolnjujeta z obdelavo gradiva do zamišljenega izdelka, z uporabo tehničnih sredstev in primerne organizacije dela.

Secondary title: The development of manual skills in the subject of science and technology with special emphasis on wooden materials
Secondary abstract: Master's thesis addresses the development of characteristics of children and their ability for technical activities in the subject science, implemented in the 4th and 5th grade of primary school. This subject combines science which studies legality of the nature, and technology which uses this legality to change the nature for human benefit. Learning and practicing science concepts is complemented with processing materials to the original idea of a product, using technical resources and appropriate organization of work. In the thesis we presented the objectives of the subject science in association with wood materials, we also included other school subjects which include handling with wood and we incorporated presentation of wood thematic involved in education in other countries into this thesis. We devoted special attention to teacher's aspect of introducing and including wood materials in the learning process in the science class. The main findings of the empirical research conducted among 146 teachers of Podravje region elementary schools are: teachers devote few hours to theoretical content of the wood material and slightly more to practical work of pupils, whereby the greater implementations of wood materials in school are in the 4th grade and with teachers with many years of work experience. The biggest obstacles to the implementation of practical work among teachers represent lack of tools and accessories for woodworking, oversized groups of pupils and underdeveloped manual skills of the students. In the Podravje region there is a very small proportion of schools where an optional subject technology or elective course material processing-wood takes place. There is insufficient number of pupils who choose this two subjects, even though they encourage the development of hand skills, which are nowadays less developed among students. Pupils should already be introduced to the nature and wood in schools, as this would encourage their primary interest to explore and create, and consequently, they would practice their hand skills in processing and designing wood and other materials.
