Abstract

Secondary title: Prevention of school violence – the role of the police
Secondary abstract: Violence is now a serious problem that has been observed in all schools around the world. At school, children should feel safe, but they are exposed to violence, caused by peers. Violence starts occurring in kindergarten and later develops in primary and secondary school. Every child hopes to attend a peaceful and calm environment, but they often experience fear. Children should have a right to enjoy a carefree childhood, but that is not always the case. Some children are going to hard times, but they are reluctant to speak about it. Due to violence, they may suffer from insomnia, agitation, forgetfulness, sudden personality changes, not wanting to go to school, start receiving bad grades, they blame themselves and are often shy. Teachers should be vigilant for signs of violence and they should try to prevent it. The theoretical part describes the concept of violence, types of violence, how to prevent violence in schools, how to react in case of violence, how to help children in need and where to get help.In the empirical part with the help of a questionnaire, which was distributed to eight teachers and one social worker, we note how the Bilingual Elementary School Lendava 1 deals with violence and how they manage to prevent violence. We wanted to know what role the police have in preventing violence and how do they engage with the school. The answers to the questionnaire were very similar as most answered that they face violence every day. In order to prevent violence at school, they conducted various workshops on violence prevention. Involved in this process is also the police, which conducted various courses on violence, road safety, the dangerous of the use of pyrotechnics. They are also involved in the cycling exam and the beginning of September at the start of the term to protect children. The police have a positive impact on the safety of pupils of Bilingual Elementary School Lendava 1.
