magistrsko delo
Abstract

PEER PRESSURE AND DRUG USE IN ADOLESCENTS |
Secondary abstract: |
In this thesis we are going to cover peer pressure in drug use among adolescents. It consists of two sections, theoretical and empirical. In the theoretical section we emphasized that growing up and adolescence are important parts and a turning point of becoming an adult. In the beginning we focused on the understanding of the term drugs, their classification, description and on the legislation that relates to drugs. The main subject of the thesis was peer pressure within groups, but we also dedicated a few chapters to research the reasons, why would adolescents succumb to drugs, experimentation and their use.
The empirical part of the thesis contains a survey based on a questionnaire. Our goal was to determine whether peer pressure has greater impact on the individuals who are using legal drugs or on those individuals who are using illegal drugs. The second part of the questionnaire was aimed to assess if there are gender based differences in drug use, and on the opinion of young people about peer pressure.
The analysis showed partial or inconclusive results, which were caused by small sample sizes and inconsistent answers in the questionnaire. We presume that because of the popularity of certain illegal drugs and low frequency of usage of this drugs, that this can produce an inconclusive result. Therefore, the future analysis must be done on a much bigger sample size. On the other hand, our results did tell us that there are no significant gender based differences about drug use and that adolescents believe that they are not the subject of peer pressure when it comes to drug use. |
