diplomsko delo visokošolskega strokovnega študija
Abstract
Posebno pozornost sem namenil poglavju v katerem sem predstavil organiziranje izobraževanja glasbenikov.

TRAINING FOR MUSIC BANDS-MUSIC MANAGEMENT |
Secondary abstract: |
In my diploma I examine the knowledge which a band needs to acquire in order to function successfully on the market. I have found out that in our country there is no institution which would educate musicians and offer them the knowledge needed to enter and survive on music market. In the central theme of my diploma I focus on organization of tutoring for musicians which would help them to gain that knowledge.
To vividly illustrate the size of music industry, in which the circulating profits are worth millions, I first present the history of music industry that began with the invention of a phonograph in America. I continue with the description of the major participants and the largest corporations operating in the music business. In order to fully understand what knowledge musicians who wish to establish themselves with a music career should have, we need to be familiar with the size of the entire music industry and its activity. I introduce the structure of music publishing houses and describe the activities of each department within this structure. It was also necessary to describe the work of the most important participants in music business, such as managers, producers, producers of phonograms and others.
A special attention is given to the chapter in which I present organization of tutoring for musicians. I chose a seminar as the most efficient organization type of such education. Then I describe how a seminar for bands tutoring is organized. I present an example of a seminar organization in parts according to each activity, included in the curriculum and which must be carried out by performing management functions.
A band is in effect a company which has to develop its own trademark by which it will become recognizable and acknowledged. In the spirit of entrepreneurship I present a short business plan which has been designed by a music agency for the band called The Swingers. Such business plan should present a foundation for a serious approach a band should have to find its way towards success at the beginning of its career.
I also present the ever growing problem of insurance, exercising and misuse of copyright.
In the conclusion of my diploma I summarize the situation on our music market as I have perceived it. I highlight the main difficulties musicians face when entering music market, especially because they lack business education. After studying music management I offer direct solutions to some problems or propositions for improving the situation at the end of this paper. |
