Abstract

Secondary title: Dealing with stress at work in the case of Zavarovalnica Maribor d.d.
Secondary abstract: We live in a society in which stress indirectly occurs because of the technology development, optimisation of working processes, very demanding jobs. People are under the influence of stress because they don't follow the technical and the technological development. When people can not fulfil the workplace criteria anymore, stress appears because the workplace demands exceed the capabilities of an individual. Stress is a global problem, which makes people suffer physically or emotionally. It causes high organisation expenses because it appears at all working areas of the organisation. The fact is that we know positive and negative stress. Positive stress encourages people to fulfil their goals, motivates them and has positive effects. Negative stress has negative consequences which cause diseases and even death. An important EU legal document is the Council Directive from the year 1989 which states the full responsibility of the employer to ensure health and safety at work, including the stress effects. A lot has been said and written about the workplace stress, but not enough done. In my opinion state is the key factor to prevent stress because with appropriate actions legal documents could be enacted. This could lower stress and consequently lower the workplace absence. This is how the expenses of the organisations and the state itself could be minor. Responsible organisations, which want to compete in the global environment, will have to begin to lower stress at the organisations.
