Abstract

Secondary title: Supply chain risk management in Slovenian food-processing industry
Secondary abstract: In its operation is every organization exposed to various risks, whether they are recognized and controlled or altogether ignored. Risk is understood as any adverse event or circumstance which has an impact on achieving the objectives of the company and may affect the quality or availability of goods and services, and impedes the ability to satisfy customer needs. The modern business environment which is due to the increasing internationalization and globalization increasingly unpredictable requires a renovation of processes in a company and throughout the whole supply chain. Here the seminal role lies in the management of rapid changes and uncertainties, therefore a major emphasis in our work is given to a presentation of the supply chain, key challenges that arise from the uncertain environment, and risk management in the supply chain. Understanding the concept of risk is essential for a successful risk management which is becoming one of the most important principles of competitiveness and efficiency of the whole supply chain. It is a relatively new phenomenon in our environment and Slovenian producing companies are in comparison to foreign insufficiently aware of the importance of a proactive risk management approach. The main purpose of the master’s degree thesis was to draw attention to the problem of an inadequate risk management in Slovenian food-processing industry and to present possible steps of successful management of risk. The research has shown that the concept of risk management is relatively poorly known, although some Slovenian companies have already implemented some more structured steps of risk management, in particular risk identification and risk assessment.
