Abstract
Zaradi vsega naštetega postaja stres zelo resen problem delovnega sveta.
Zato morajo organizacije posebno pozornost posvečati zdravju in dobremu počutju zaposlenih.
- zaposleni, ki so bili udeleženi v raziskavi, v povprečju ocenjujejo svoje delo kot zmerno stresno, saj se jih je 42,9 % opredelilo, da so včasih v stresu;
- za zaposlene sta najbolj stresogena dejavnika količina dela na delovnem mestu in časovni pritiski ter roki;
- zaposleni se v največji meri spoprijemajo s stresom na način, da si določijo prednostne naloge in da delujejo v smeri uresničitve realnejših ciljev;
- obstaja dokaj tesna povezanost med dimenzijami obvladovanja stresa in lestvicami dobrega počutja na delovnem mestu - bolj kot zaposleni obvladujejo stres, boljše se počutijo na delovnem mestu;
- skoraj ne obstajajo statistično značilne razlike v doživljanju z delom povezanega stresa glede na izbrane socio-demografske spremenljivke (spol, starost in stopnja izobrazbe);
Zaposlenim na Ministrstvu za okolje in prostor smo pripravili celovit model za obvladovanje stresnih situacij in vzpostavljanje dobrega počutja na delovnem mestu, kjer smo podali koristne praktične nasvete za obvladovanje stresa, poudarili naloge delodajalcev in pomen vzpodbujanja zdravja za dobro počutje zaposlenih ter opisali štiri učinkovite metode za obvladovanje stresa in vzpostavljanja subjektivnega blagostanja na delovnem mestu, in sicer obvladovanje časa in konfliktov, uravnotežena prehrana in redna telesna dejavnost ter mirno dihanje in sprostitvene tehnike.

Stress management and maintaining well-being in the workplace |
Secondary abstract: |
Stress is an important element in our daily lives, and it is almost inevitable, due to constant adaptations to changes in the work environment, fast technological progress and fast ways of living. Stress is very often present also in the workplace and thus causes different kinds of issues to organizations, such as work absenteeism, declining work efficiency due to mistakes and wrong decisions, as well as high employee fluctuation. All the reasons above point towards the fact that stress is becoming a very serious problem in the workplace.
The majority of causes for stress in the workplace originate in the work environment and are a consequence of the following factors: work strain, alternated working conditions and work environment, career development, organizational climate, culture and role, as well as the responsibility of employees, interpersonal relationships and organizational changes.
The skill of managing and preventing stress situations is one of the key factors for maintaining success and high motivation at work. To manage such situations, it is advised to follow the tripartite approach, which consists of the primary, secondary and terciary level of stress management. Within the levels the main focus can be put on the individual, the group or the organization.
By managing stressful situations in the workplace we establish a certain level of well-being of an employee, meaning that a healthy, satisfied and happy individual contributes a big part to a greater productivity of an organization, success and lower costs. Consequently, organizations should pay special attention to health and well-being of its employees.
At the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning we have carried out a research on the topic and come to the following findings:
- the employees, which took part in the research, in average estimate their work as moderately stressful, 42,9 % of them occasionally experience stress;
- the most stressful factors for the employees is the amount of work at the work place and deadlines;
- the employees mostly manage stress by prioritizing tasks and working towards solving more obtainable goals first;
- there is a quite close link between the dimensions of stress management and levels of well-being in the workplace – the more that the employees manage stress, the better they feel;
- there are almost none statistically important differences in experiencing work-related stress, according to the chosen socio-demographic variables (sex, age and level of education);
- there are minimal differences as far as the demographic characteristics are concerned, in what ways the employees manage stress in the workplace.
We have prepared a comprehensive model for managing stressful situations and establishing well-being in the workplace for the employees of the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning. Through the model, we have put forward some practical tips for stress management, emphasized the role of employers and the meaning of promoting health in order to feel well. We have also given descriptions of four efficient methods for stress management and maintaining subjective welfare in the workplace, these are the following: mastering time and conflicts, balanced diet and regular physical exercise, calm breathing and relaxation techniques. |
