magistrsko delo

ǂThe ǂimpact of computer games on the language of young users (up tu 30 years of age) |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
For youth, computer games represent an escape from reality, where they can build new worlds and connect with other players while being more successful than in the real world, which is especially appealing to them. The key to all this is communication that takes place, either with other players or with the game itself. In the master's thesis, we were able to determine the role of Slovene in the world of computer games, how it is influenced by English as the universal language of this field, and how the players accept the fact that the most played computer games usually cannot be played in Slovene. The empirical part of the master's thesis shows the attitude of the interviewed towards Slovene and translations of computer games into Slovene, how they accept English and how they manage in situations where they need to communicate with other players who are not speakers of Slovene to be successful in the game. We used a survey questionnaire for analysis. Answers acquired were carefully analysed and we discovered that computer games, given the fact that translations to Slovene are mostly not available, have a profound effect on the language of the players, which is Slovene. In this field, only English words or a combination of Slovene and English words are used. Most of the players do not favour Slovene translations due to the expected poor quality of the translations and because they are accustomed to the use of English. Those who would like to try playing in Slovene would only do so out of curiosity. The survey was conducted on a sample of young people aged up to 30 who regularly play computer games and were ready to participate. 366 people participated in the survey. |
