Sekundarni povzetek: Global financial and economic crisis, which soon became one of the biggest crises after The Great Depression in the 1930s, raised my attention by having an immense impact on the banking system since 2007. Banks have been forced to adapt to new economic environment circumstances very fast. Lack of confidence amongst them has caused shifts between different categories of liabilities in the banks' balance sheets and the banks' funding structure. Banking system, not only in Slovenia but also in the whole EU region, has been forced to compensate a lack of interbank lending with more expensive funding. As a result, we have been able to observe higher growth in customer deposits base and also ECB funding which has offered help via long term refinancing operations. Large state-owned banks has had easier access to state guarantees when obtaining new funds, while the banks in foreign ownership preserved higher share of funding in interbank markets. A group of smaller Slovenian banks has answered the tougher conditions by raising interests rates on customer deposits to attract larger shares of much needed funds. The graduate seminar of six chapters, including an introduction and conclusion. In the second chapter, the beginning of financial crises, its causes, and consequences are presented (especially the impact the crises had on banking and real sector of the economy in the last six years and some monetary and fiscal measures that governments have implemented). In the third chapter, the Slovenian banking system is described before and during the crisis, followed by the forth chapter, where I have defined banks' funding structure with different criteria and effects the costs of funding have on the changes in the structure. In the fifth chapter, I offer a more detailed view of shifts among different funding sources for certain representative Slovenian banks and later compare the findings with the banking system in general.
