This university graduation thesis deals with dissimilar impacts of coaching approaches on athletes’ success particularly related to motivation, self-evaluation, and willingness to further sports activity, giving point to distinctions between team- and individual sports as well as in the way athletes perceive the style of coaching itself. The purpose of the research has been to determine which approaches of coaches play the most effective role from athletes’ perspective and their impact onto their motivation and perceived success, in which the quantitative style has been applied, while data have been collected by means of a survey questionnaire carried out among athletes and coaches of various sports disciplines. As the result the holistic style, which includes technical, psychological, and emotional support, has been recognised as the most desirable one, while the democratic style, however, has been most often in practice. Furthermore, the important connection between the perceived style of leading, the athlete’s intrinsic motivation and self-evaluation of their own success, have also been stated. In the final part of this university graduation thesis, the major inclusion of both psychological and communication contents in the educational process of coaches as well as the adaption of coaching styles to the athletes’ needs have been proposed as significant. |
