Sekundarni povzetek: The diploma thesis presents the use of picture books in teaching English. The theoretical part describes the benefits of using picture books in the classroom and the importance of reading picture books with children. It also presents the benefits of the use of picture books in children's development. In addition to this the theoretical part presents ways of selecting picture books and ways of adapting picture books considering children's level of language. Furthermore the theoretical part presents ways of including picture books in teaching and tips for lesson planning. The empirical part of the thesis presents a research which has been carried out among Slovenian teachers of the first and second triad of the primary schools. The research presents how often the participant teachers use picture books in the classroom, which picture book related activities they use and the ways in which they use them.

Povzetek (ePrints): Diplomsko delo predstavlja uporabo slikanic pri poučevanju angleščine. V teoretičnem delu so opisane prednosti uporabe slikanic pri pouku in pomen branja ter uporabe slikanic v otrokovem razvoju. V nadaljevanju so predstavljeni načini izbora slikanic, prilagoditev slikanic glede na raven znanja otrok ter načini vključevanja slikanic v pouk. Podani so tudi nasveti za načrtovanje učnih ur, v katerih želimo obravnavati slikanice, in dejavnosti, povezane z uporabo slikanic. V raziskovalnem delu je predstavljena raziskava, izvedena med učitelji in učiteljicami 1. in 2. triletja slovenskih osnovnih šol. V njej je predstavljeno, kako pogosto sodelujoči učitelji in učiteljice uporabljajo slikanice in s tem povezane dejavnosti pri poučevanju angleščine ter na kakšen način to izvajajo.
