This diploma paper is divided into two parts, the theoretical and the practical one. The first part describes the history of travelling and landing on the Moon, general information on the Moon (its evolution, composition, surface, visibility, and moon phases), and the astronomical instruments. The development of a child's way of thinking is also briefly presented.
The second, more practical part, is introduced by a questionnaire consisting of 10 general questions about the Moon. The aim was to find out how much the pre-school children know about the Earth's natural satellite. The answers of 35 children, aged five to six years, are presented in the Excel program with pie charts.
Further on, the activities for children in kindergarten are presented (the Moon and the Sun, the presentation of the Moon, elaboration of a poster about the Moon; the making of moon in a sandbox; a model presentation of the rotation of the Moon and the Earth; a review of new findings on the Moon), and their analysis.
The final part presents the results of repeated interviews of children based on the same questionnaire. The results show that children learned a lot about the Moon from these organized activities, since most of the answers were consequent and correct. In order to facilitate the presentation on the progress of children in their knowledge of the Moon, the answers are given in bar graphs together with the original answers to the questionnaire. |
