Teoretical introduction: : Down's syndrome is formed at changing genetic materials, which means that those patients with Down's syndrome have 47 chromosoms instead of 46 (23 pairs)- 21th chromosome is formed three times instead of two and that disctraction leads to mental and physical disability. We don't know what causes this distraction at dividing, but the disability always changes from child to child it is not always the same. No matter if people knows Down's syndrome they always make various perspectives to the patients. Patients with Down's syndrome most of the time recieve incorrect approach, rejections and isolation wich makes them feel worthless.
Research Methodology: research is based on the descriptive and analytic method. Research was made in November 2014. To get data we wanted we used an anonymous survey with 18 questions about Down's syndrome. The survery involved 120 sudents of two faculties Maribor
Results: We found that all respondents have heard of Down's syndrome, as well as a better understanding of Down syndrome in students of nursing , as the students of Faculty of Education . The results also show divided opinions on the acceptance of people with Down syndrome , and 3 % of students in both faculties is of the opinion that people with Down syndrome are different from other people.
Discussion: From the results based on the survery we found out that the most of the pastricipations knows what Down´s syndrome is and what causes it, but the real question is how people accept and look at the patients with Down´s syndrome. This is the main reason why is the role of nurse more important on that area to keep other people informed how to look at those patients and how to approach them correctly. |
