Sekundarni naslov: KNOWLEDGE AND POPULARITY OF CLASSICAL MUSIC AMONGST STUDENTS IN THE 2ND, 3RD, 4TH AND 5TH GRADE OF PRIMARY SCHOOL WITH A NINE-YEAR PROGRAMME
Sekundarni povzetek: Classical music is an important branch of musical art in people's history. As an important constituent it is also included in the Teaching curriculum for music in the primary school programme, within which it gives teachers numerous possibilities of how to bring the teaching contents closer to the students and how to strengthen their awareness for this kind of music. Because it is perceived that classical music is still less known among people, we decided to study the knowledge and popularity of classical music among primary school students. In the theoretical part we presented definitions, the characteristics of classical music and touched upon the subject of how classical music affects a child's development. In this part we also presented a short overview of the history of classical music (periods of classical music, their characteristics and representatives) while taking into account the teaching curriculum for music. We studied the inclusion of classical music into music lessons and prepared a comparison of textbook sets for music lessons in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grade of primary school by Albinca Pesek and Breda Oblak, with special emphasis on the contents of the music programme (listening examples), that is to say, focusing on the selection of music pieces and composers, which will be played during music classes in the specific grades. In the empirical part, with the help of an empirical research (a survey questionnaire) and the descriptive and causal-nonexperimental method, as well as based on a sample of 145 students, we found out that classical music is not as neglected as we assumed at the beginning. The results of the research showed that there are statistically significant differences pertaining the knowledge and popularity of classical music amongst students according to their educational period, but there are no differences based on gender. Students of the second educational period have slightly better knowledge of classical music because they have more experience and are further on in the education process. Students of the first educational period are somewhat inexperienced in regards to classical music. They are only familiar with those classical and Slovene composers as well as classical music pieces that they learned about (discussed) or that were mentioned by the teacher during music lessons.
