Invasive non-native species are becoming a bigger threat for indigenous species, ecosystems, economy and human health. For lowering the negative effects of invasive non-native species the general public has to be informed about the problem. One of the possibilities is to include the problem into formal education at the level of elementary school. The aim of this diploma paper is to establish the level of general knowledge about invasive non-native species in 7th and 9th grade of primary school. We did an outlook of syllabuses of Natural science, Biology and corresponding subjects. The outlook has shown that teachers have a possibility to deal with this problem according to the syllabus. Still, children have a lower level of knowledge about this topic, that means they have already heard about invasive non-native species but cannot recognize them or do not understand their effect on the environment. Generally there was no difference in knowledge between 7th and 9th graders, although there are some exceptions. |
