Involvement of mothers in their child`s education and their self-assessment of life satisfaction |
Sekundarni povzetek: |
The main problem explored in this research is the self-realisation of the woman through the role of a mother, her satisfaction with life and involvement in her child's education. The individualisation process, which can be observed (especially) in private family life that has seen a post-modern restructuring of private relationships, has created a new space where the child's preciousness and perfection are at the forefront of everything. This thesis discusses the development of the decision to have a child and the careful deliberation surrounding upbringing as an important process of shaping the child according to the parents' and especially the mother's wishes and aspirations. The chapter about motherhood as one of the strongest ideological constructs touches on discourse about motherhood, so full of myths and patriarchal norms that mask the decision to have a child as freedom of choice. Moreover, it delves into narcissism, parenthood and determining the child's role with regard to the parents' narcissistic projections. The next part of the thesis defines learning success and the inclusion of the parents in their child's education, and outlines the notions of satisfaction and self-realisation of the mother within the family. As for the empirical part, it explores the perception of motherhood and the role of the mother in terms of self-realisation, the feeling of deprivation, and the freedom of choice to have a child in mothers of primary school children. The main goal was to establish whether the mothers could freely decide for a child and if the decision to become a mother is making them feel more self-realized and satisfied with life as a whole. Another question was whether all the above affects their involvement in their children's education and what is the correlation between their self-assessment with life satisfaction and involvement in their children's education. The findings indicate that seemingly unambiguous notions of the child, motherhood and family are, in fact, polysemous and that they have changed through time from relatively stable mechanisms of identity. Women can freely decide to have a child, which increases their self-realisation and life satisfaction. Their involvement in their children's education is quite strong, but certain differences can be observed in terms of their work activity, self-assessment of their children's learning success, self-realisation through motherhood, and the number of children they have. Their self-assessment of their life satisfaction is positively correlated with their involvement in education, which means that mothers who are more satisfied are indeed more involved in their children's education. |
