magistrsko delo

Sekundarni naslov: Developing a reading competency in home reading and the reading badge in the 1st and 2nd triads of primary school
Sekundarni povzetek: The master's thesis discusses the ways how to get reading closer to young people, ways of promoting the desire to read high-quality books and reaching for literature, how to motivate them and encourage them to read, regardless of their age and gender. The emphasis will be set on ways, methods and forms of stimulating reading in literature classes and additional literature activities in the framework of obligatory home reading and optional reading badge in the first- and second educational periods of the elementary school. In additional activities, a teacher can partially adapt his literary class to the pupils’ reading interests and organize some classes by leading pupils through reading texts, motivating them into thinking and communicating with literature in a creative way. Thus the teacher creates reading conditions which strengthen the inner motivation for reading and stir pleasant experience in pupils. The thesis consists of two parts. The theoretical part presents theoretical explanations of the concept of reading and developing the reading literacy, the definition of factors that influence the development of reading abilities and arouse the desire for reading, as well as external and internal reasons that expand the reading culture and shape a lifelong reader. A great emphasis is placed on the role of pupils in establishing creative, interesting and effective reading events in the context of reading badge and home reading. The empirical part is based on the obtained results and final interpretations, based on completed questionnaires of class teachers and interviews with opinions of pupils from the first to the sixth grade of five elementary schools in the municipalites of Šmartno and Litija. The research has confirmed the hypothesis that the pupils’ motivation for reading falls sharply over the years. The reasons lie in the lack of time for conversation on the reading material, insufficient creative engagement and encouragement of a young reader, decline in family reading, less engaging teachers’ encouragement for reading and children’s growing interest for other activities, related to physical activities and less with mental activities.
