Sekundarni naslov: ǂThe ǂrole of supervision in resolution of patient's violence towards the nursing staff in psychiatric nursing care
Sekundarni povzetek: Introduction: Since the 1990s the emergence of workplace violence has become more frequent and intense. Recent studies proove a similar trend. Although the violence is present amongst all sectors and categories of workers, almost a quarter of it is occuring amongst nursing professions. Supervision is defined as a process of expert's development as a practicioner, who constantly reflects on his or her experience. It is a creative space in which the expert, in contact and collaboration with his or her supervisor, learns from his or her experience and seeks his or her own solutions of the problems encountered during his or her work Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to define the types and incidence of violence committed towards the nursing staff in psychiatric nursing care, to demonstrate these issues and to explain the meaning and influence of supervision in solving them. Methods: A descriptive method was used. An overview of scientific literature, both in Slovenian and English language, has been performed. The following databases were used for the literature in English: ScienceDirect, MEDLINE – PubMed and CINAHL. For the Slovenian literature the library system COBISS.SI was used. The literature in question was published during 2008 until 2018 period. Discussion and conclusion: Every individual reacts differently to a stressful situation. Nursing staff profession must deal with verbal or physical violence of patients daily. In these situations, they are often left to themselves therefore a clinical supervision would benefit a nursing professional to correctly deal with the situation in an expert manner. Supervision should be an important part of nursing professional’s clinical routine however, this is often neglected in practice. It would be beneficial for nursing professional to end their work day with an empowered feeling that the stressful events were addressed professionally during work and not that they were carried as a burden to their private spheres.
